Fast and effective ways to rapidly reduce stress
Stress affects us in many ways. For some it is internal, and for others it projects outwards onto the people around us. Finding a way to deal with it and even reduce the amount of stress in our lives is important. This article will give lots of ideas and tips on doing just that.
Tips for recognizing when you’re stressed
Hush the voice that’s telling you, ‘Oh, I’m fine.” Notice how you’re breathing has changed. Are your muscles tense? Awareness of your physical response to stress will help regulate the tension when it occurs. When you're tired, your eyes feel heavy and you might rest your head on your hand. When you're happy, you laugh easily. And when you are stressed, your body lets you know that too. Try to get in the habit of paying attention to your body's clues.
- Observe your muscles and insides. Are your muscles tight/sore? Is your stomach tight or sore? Are your hands clenched?
- Observe your breath. Is your breath shallow? Place one hand on your belly, the other on your chest. Watch your hands rise and fall with each breath. Notice when you breathe fully or when you "forget" to breathe.
1. A great tip that can help you keep your stress levels down is to start practicing deep breathing exercises. Deep breathing exercises are a form of mediation and they allow you to feel more relaxed and peaceful. You'll notice your heart rate slowing down and you'll feel much better.
2. Some people turn to alcohol or other drugs when they are stressed out. This is their way of grasping for something that will temporarily relieve the unbearable feelings that are flooding their lives. Drugs (alcohol include), however, are not a solution. Indeed, they are more likely to complicate your life even further than they are to solve your stress problems.
3. If you are feeling with an overwhelming amount of stress in your life, consider making an appointment to go for a nice massage. It is one of the most relaxing things that you can do for yourself and you will not regret the decision to take a minute for yourself.
4. Take more vitamins. Vitamin B has been shown to help reduce stress. Try to take between 100 percent and 300 percent of the daily allowance. Minerals such as chromium, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, molybdenum, zinc, manganese, and selenium also help you to better deal with stress. Stay away from vitamins labeled as stress relievers as they are usually just vitamin B.
5. When you work for the greater part of your life, you may not have time to treat yourself. One of the things that you should do at least once during the week is to get a manicure or a pedicure. This will make you feel good about your body and relieve your tension.
6. Visualization is a very effective way to manage stress. Picture yourself at the beach, walking through your favorite vacation spot, or even just relaxing in a hot bath. Several studies have been conducted showing the positive effects that visualization can have. Stress can be instantly reduced by using this technique.
7. When deciding on what snack to eat during the day, choose berries. Blueberries, strawberries and blackberries not only provide you with extra energy, but are great sources of antioxidants to make you feel outstanding as the day wears on. Limiting the free radicals internally in your body will decrease your stress.
8. Take a mental break. Just daydream for a few minutes. Look outside and find something natural that allows your imagination to roam. Look at the wind blowing through the trees, or the clouds rolling by. Space out for a few minutes and it will help your stress level.
9. If you currently use unhealthy habits as a way of dealing with stress, find healthier, more productive habits to replace them. For instance, if you typically overeat when you feel stressed out, try exercising instead. Replacing unhealthy coping techniques with healthier ones will help your body stay strong so it is better capable of dealing with the stress of day to day life.
10. Having a life free of stress is not going to be possible. But making smart choices that minimize stress and dealing with it properly when we do experience it can make a world of difference in our health and our lives. Follow the tips here and change your life in a good way.
